Limited Edition Foods

A few weeks ago I found these seasonal Peppermint Crunch Junior Mints in the holiday candy section at Target. The box describes them as “Real Junior Mints made with a ready candy crunch.” They basically are the same as a regular Junior Mint inside. The outer shell is also very similar being made from dark chocolate. The box art makes it seem like it very obviously has peppermint candy pieces on top of the outer shell. However, if you look at the real candies you have to look closely to notice that yes in fact they do have peppermint candy pieces mixed in with outer shell. It seems they must mix it in with the outer shell rather than add it as a topping as the box makes it seem. Not that it really changes the flavor doing it this way. It just does not look as festive because the red is barely noticeable.

The flavor of the Peppermint Crunch Junior Mints are quite tasty if you like mint flavor. The outer shell does have a peppermint flavor to it, but it is quite slight and the center mint overpowers the peppermint. They are supposed to have a real candy crunch to them, but they are not crunchy at all. The outer shell is pretty much just as smooth as regular Junior Mints as the candy pieces are very small and while they do add a little bit of grittiness to the outer shell it most certainly does not give it any crunch. Basically they are good tasting, but not as festive or crunchy as the package makes them seem.
