Earthquake Aid Inspires Limited Edition Pisco 7.9

Peru was struck by a devastating earthquake earlier this year, and as part of the recovery effort the Peruvian government was going to produce 1,000 bottles of its famous fruit brandy in a limited edition run called Pisco 7.9.
Named for the province that suffered the most damage in the earthquake, the bottles were not going to be sold. Instead, the plan was to give them to dignitaries in governments from other countries who helped with the recovery effort by sending aid to Peru.
Now plans have changed. Peru’s Minister of Production Rafael Rey announced that the limited edition idea would not happen after all,as many people in Peru found the idea tasteless and were outraged by the effort.
Over 500 people died in the earthquake, which also did extensive damage to infrastructure and harmed the country’s tourism industry.
