The Cleveland Leader is reporting that the limited edition sodas from Jones Soda Co. are out! These Halloween sodas have become something of an October tradition, with the Candy Corn version being the annual seasonal centerpiece of the four unusual flavors. Other fun flavors for 2007 include Monster Mojito (just add rum!) and Black Cat Licorice (not sure what you would mix that with, but it sounds interesting).

The sodas are usually available in four packs at Target and other select stores nationwide.

Limited Edition Vermont Organic Maple Liqueur

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Vermont_Organic_Maple_Liqueur.JPG

Green Mountain Distillers is marketing a limited edition Vermont Organic Maple Liqueur as an after-dinner drink. The liqueur is made of pure Vermont maple syrup and an organic liqueur that will be the basis for future Vermont Organic liqueur products from the company.

The company also advises using the unique liqueur in a variety of fall-themed dishes including ham glazes, BBQ sauces, martinis, creme brulee glazes … or simply adding it to coffee, apple cider, a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. The blog Martini Lounge created a new recipe in honor of the liqueur called The French Toast.

Consumers who are interested in purchasing the product should be advised that it is only available in Vermont. Also, it is limited edition in the old-fashioned sense: every bottle is hand-filled, hand-numbered, and signed by someone at Green Mountain Distillers.

Ohio State University fans are actually fanatics, so maybe they will be scooping up these Ohio Buckeye cereal boxes by the supermarket cart-fuls. The cereal, a fall favorite, is back again but this season it can boast that it was named “Buckeye Heroes” before NBC’s Heroes was the worldwide phenom it is now.

Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Jack__s_Pumpkin_Spice_Ale.jpg
Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale is a seasonal offering that actually tastes like a micro-brew even though it comes from big brewer Anheuser-Busch. Perhaps the flavor comes from the Oregon-grown Golden Delicious pumpkins the company advertises are included in the brewing process.

“For adults who’ve never tried a pumpkin beer before, we’d encourage them to experiment with Jack’s,” said Florian Kuplent, brewmaster, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Because the pumpkin and spice flavors are so well-balanced and subtle, Jack’s doesn’t overpower foods and makes for an ideal culinary experience. Year after year this is one of our favorite beers to brew and we hope beer drinkers who enjoy trying new flavors will sample this seasonal ale.”

The brew is available in stores around the country through November, allowing it to capitalize on both Halloween parties and Thanksgiving feasts. The brewers advise that it tastes best in a “tall fluted glass” which creates the best environment for its spicy aromas. Another option would be to have a pumpkin beer tasting, as more pumpkin beers seem to join the market each fall.
